The lawn is 100% upright grass. Upright grasses include bluegrass, rye and fescue. If you live in the Northern United States or Canada you almost certainly have an upright grass lawn. The lawn is mixed upright and common bent grass. These lawns may be found in the Southern United States and almost anywhere in California. I don't know what kind of grass it is. There are two categories of grasses: bent and upright or blade grass. The upright grasses include Fescue, Bluegrass, Rye and others. Their separate leaves grow straight up in single blades from the soil. St. Augustine, although technically a bent grass, has wider, coarser blades than other bent grasses, and is usually mowed with the same type of mower as the upright grasses. The bent group includes Bermuda, Zoysia, Centipede and a number of fine-bladed hybrids developed primarily for golf putting greens but often used as lawn grasses. Bent grasses look a little like vines, with leaves growing from the sides of other leaves. The leaves are usually very narrow. Choosing a mower is a highly personal decision, depending on what is important to you and the nature and condition of your lawn.
