Mascot Silent Cut 21 Reel Mower for Bent Grasses
Are you looking for a high quality push reel mower for your Bermuda, zoysia, centipede or other bent grass lawn? The Mascot Silent Cut 21 for Bent Grasses just might be the best push reel mower for you. The 6 blade reel gives an even cut on these low-growing, fine bladed grasses. The mowing height adjusts from approximately 1/2 inch to 2 1/4 inches. This one is heavy duty and built to last. The solid construction is apparent from the weight of about 42 lbs. That weight not only indicates a sturdy mower, it helps the mower to hug the ground for an even cut. Mascot reel mowers don't bounce around on uneven lawns or thick grasses like ultra-light mowers do.
The Mascot Silent Cut 21 for Bent Grasses (45-0252SW) features a quiet, light-contact design for a clean cut. This is an especially good choice for bent grasses such as Bermuda, zoysia or centipede, or lawns with mixed bent and upright grasses. St. Augustine is a bent grass but check with the turf management experts at your state agricultural university. They may recommend a higher cut for St. Augustine lawns. If so, the Silent Cut 21 (45-0252) or Silent Cut 18 for Upright Grasses (45-01931LW) would be a better choice for you.
This heavy duty reel mower has the widest mowing width of any reel mower on the market. It is popular with people who are taller than average, fairly strong, accustomed to working with heavy duty tools, especially if they are mowing a large yard. The handle is the sturdiest one we have seen on any push reel lawn mower. The frame is made of 12 gauge steel. The six blade reel features heat treated blades for a long-lasting sharp edge. The heat-treated, one piece cutter bar has a new, easier one nut adjustment. The three piece poly roller increases maneuverability and features rounded ends to prevent grooving. The nine inch wheels are metal with bronze bushings and have semi-pneumatic tires and plastic hubcaps.
Maintenance is easy. You can sharpen it yourself using a Mascot sharpening kit, sold separately. The high quality blades keep an edge for a long time so the mower needs to be sharpened less often than many other push reel mowers. Customers say they sharpen once every two or more years. Sharpening frequency depends on the size and condition of your lawn (please see our Blog for more information about sharpening frequency). A grass catcher is also available and sold separately.
